What we do
Tile & backsplash in Metro Detroit.
Kitchen backsplashes, full bathrooms, shower pans, and waterproofing. Lippage-free tile, grout lines you can sight down a hallway.
About the work
Tile that's flat, straight, and dry.
Tile and backsplash work is the craft of setting ceramic, porcelain, or stone over a prepared, waterproofed substrate so the finished surface is flat, the grout lines run straight, and water stays where it belongs. It is one of the least forgiving trades in a home. A backsplash sits at eye level over the counter, and a shower has to shed water for decades without a leak reaching the framing behind it. In Metro Detroit, where a bathroom in a Grosse Pointe classic and a kitchen in a new Troy build carry very different expectations, the fundamentals are the same: prep the substrate flat, waterproof the wet areas properly, and set the tile lippage-free.
Apex Construxive sets tile with those fundamentals first. Every wet-area job gets a proper waterproofing system (Schluter membranes, Kerdi boards, and a sloped shower pan) before a single tile goes up, because the tile is only the surface and what is behind it keeps your walls and framing dry. We dry-lay and plan grout lines before we spread mortar, back-butter large-format porcelain so it stays flat, and keep the lines straight enough to sight down a hallway. From a single kitchen backsplash to a full bathroom floor and wall, it is the same owner-led crew, and Luis is on the site to see it set right.

Tile questions
Tile in Metro Detroit, answered.
How do you waterproof a shower or wet area?
We waterproof wet areas with Schluter and Kerdi systems: bonded waterproof membrane over the substrate, sealed seams and corners, and a proper sloped shower pan before any tile goes on. Waterproofing is done on every wet-area job, because the tile is only the surface. What is behind it keeps the water out of your framing.
Do you install large-format porcelain and mosaics?
Yes. We set large-format porcelain at 24x48 and up, along with mosaics and accent patterns. Large-format panels demand a flat substrate and careful back-buttering to stay lippage-free, and mosaics demand patient layout, so we plan the substrate and the grout lines before the first sheet or slab goes up.
What is lippage and how do you avoid it?
Lippage is when the edge of one tile sits higher than the next, so you can feel and see the ridge. We avoid it with a flat, prepped substrate, the right trowel and mortar coverage, and leveling systems on larger tile, so the finished surface reads as one plane and the grout lines run straight down a hallway.
Can you do just a kitchen backsplash?
Yes. A kitchen backsplash on its own is one of the most common jobs we take, and it pairs naturally with a kitchen refresh. It is a fast, high-impact upgrade, and because we handle the tile, the outlets, and the finish trim as one crew, you are not coordinating a tile setter and a handyman to close it out.
